Founded in 2015, FCC Cincinnati played in the United Soccer League as a third-division team in 2016 — a far cry from where the team’s manager and president wanted them to be. Already, Jeff Berding had plans of getting the FCC into the major leagues, an ambition four years away from becoming a reality.
FC Cincinnati played their first game against the Charleston Battery and lost 1-0. A few months later, they beat the Charlotte Independence in a home match 2-1. In May 2017, FCC beat Louisville City FC in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup competition. That same year, they beat back Columbus Crew SC in the first Hell is Real Derby.
FC Cincinnati is Major League Soccer’s 26th franchise, with its first competition as a member starting in 2019. The club’s first game as an MLS franchise was against the Seattle Sounders.
Today, head coach Pat Noonan hopes to continue the franchise’s history of excellence.

Often, proximity automatically means instant rivals, as with the rivalries between the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC or Los Angeles Galaxy and Los Angeles FC. Proximity means fans get to better enjoy away games because oftentimes, the game location is just a bus ride away.
So, the rivalry between FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew SC is pretty obvious. This is not the case for the rivalry that exists between FC Cincinnati and Nashville SC.
The rivalry between FC Cincinnati and Nashville SC is different. It’s intense. Both teams became MLS franchises around the same time, but while FC Cincinnati’s bid to get into the major league sat and collected dust through 2018, Nashville SC’s received an acceptance much sooner in 2017.
Of course, any regular season game is guaranteed to be a good time as FC Cincinnati faces off against teams like Toronto FC, Atlanta United FC, and St. Louis City SC. Whether you’re in Kansas City or San Jose, FC Cincinnati is likely coming to a city near you.
